Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment used to reduce pain and inflammation, encourage healing and improve function. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles at very specific points throughout the body. It is safe and effective and is often used as an alternative to medication. There is nothing in or on the needle and nothing is injected. The needles themselves cause minimal or no discomfort.

How does it work?

The stimulation of ‘acupuncture points’ encourages your body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins block pain, reduce inflammation and promote relaxation.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Most often acupuncture is not uncomfortable. As with many treatments people experience differing sensations. These sensations can vary from something less than a mosquito bite to a dull achy feeling. Acupuncture needles are very fine and most often don’t even result in a drop of blood when removed.

What types of conditions is acupuncture used for?

Acupuncture is effective at treating a variety of painful conditions that can be either acute or chronic. Conditions that are commonly treated at Sun Chiropractic using acupuncture are: shoulder pain, knee pain, wrist /arm pain, headaches, neck and back pain leg pain, foot pain etc.

How many treatments before I see results?

This varies for every patient. In situations of acute problems, significant relief may take only a few treatments. For longer standing and more chronic condition successful resolution may take 2-3 treatments per week for a few weeks.

Is Acupuncture covered by insurance?

Acupuncture is not covered by Manitoba Health however; many private insurance plans do cover acupuncture treatment. In some cases the office is able to directly bill your insurance plan for the treatments.
